ADEN, Yemen -- Yemen's pro-government forces on Saturday continued anti-terror military operations in the southern province of Abyan, a security official told Xinhua.

The troops raided the al-Qaida terrorist group's strongholds in various areas of the province in recent days, killing 24 armed al-Qaida members, the local security source said on condition of anonymity. (Yemen-Al-Qaida Militants-Killed)

TEHRAN -- Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani on Saturday expressed regret for the decision of the Ukrainian government to downgrade diplomatic relations with the Islamic republic.

The decision of the Ukrainian government is based on "unconfirmed reports and caused by the creation of media hype by foreign parties," Kanani was quoted by the Iranian Foreign Ministry's website as saying. (Iran-Ukraine-Diplomacy Downgrade)

SANAA -- Nayef bin Falah Al-Hajraf, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has reaffirmed the GCC's support for Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) and the internationally-recognized government, the national Yemen TV reported Saturday.

Al-Hajraf made the remarks when meeting with Rashad Al-Alimi, chairman of the PLC, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly on Thursday. (Yemen-GCC-Truce)

RAMALLAH -- A Palestinian driver who lost control of his car on a highway near the northern West Bank city of Nablus was killed, Palestinian security sources and the victim's families said.

The sources said that Mohammad Abu Kafia, 36, a resident of Bayt Ijza village northwest of Jerusalem, was killed by Israeli police in the evening when he was driving his car on Route 60 adjacent to the village of Jit, west of Nablus. (Palestinian-Israeli Forces-Kill)
