KUWAIT CITY, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait International Airport was targeted by drone attacks early Wednesday, the country's Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement, attributing the incident to Iran and affiliated armed groups.
According to the statement, the attacks struck fuel storage tanks operated by the Kuwait Aviation Fuelling Company, causing a large fire, said Abdullah Al-Rajhi, spokesman for the authority.
Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze and secure the area, and preliminary reports indicated no injuries, with the damage limited to material losses.
The latest incident follows a number of similar attacks targeting the same facility in recent weeks. Kuwait's civil aviation authorities said on Saturday that multiple drone strikes had hit Kuwait International Airport, causing significant damage to its radar system.
The incidents come amid heightened regional tensions following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran that began on Feb. 28. Since then, Iran has launched missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli and U.S. assets across the Middle East.
